"The reason I feel so disconnected from the ideals of social media is the dehumanization of the people we portray when posting. The idea that happiness and contentment is had at all times because we seem happy on the internet is very silly to me, but I still feel sometimes I have to perform on media platforms. We put ourselves on pedestals and hyper focus on the beauty standards like clear skin, nice teeth, the right pose, the latest fashion trends, the latest “perfect” body type... it’s all exhausting and inauthentic. I wanted to do Callee’s passion project to show my authenticity through the thing that makes me the happiest, dance. My truest form is expressed in movement and I think it’s important to show vulnerability on platforms like this to remind myself that I’m not just some picture of perfection on Instagram, I am me, I am imperfect, I am my soul and I am my expression. The setting I chose is a dance studio, where I feel I don’t have to hide any part of myself...my safe haven."
